Can anyone recommend how to determine the resale value of a Mac?

Don't have a good calculation. I'd say deduct 10% on opening the box, plus 15-25% each year after that, less for high end models, more for low end. Also, factor in the $ value of any issues and defects.

Well, that would be because your calculations are completely wrong!

A $2000 computer would likely lose 20% (1800*.2=360) of its value in the first year, so that would be:

2000
-200
-360
_____
=1440

My guess is that you were somehow lowering the discount rate because you've only had the computer for 6 months. You wouldn't do that: it should just be rounded up to the nearest whole year.

In the past I've looked at a similar spec/condition Mac as my own on ebay and followed the sale. The final prices are usually a pretty good indicator of the value of the Mac. It's not fool proof but it will give you a good idea along with BBB formula which seems pretty good to me.

I think even 1440 is pushing it! With the amount of marks on the bottom of this thing (honestly every time I put it on a table... Those rubber things are useless!) So it would be more like

1440
-1000000
=-998560...

Nah.. In all seriousness, probably I'd get about 1200 for it if I sold it...

Which I wont because I absolutely ADORE this computer and wont get rid of it until it dies!

The numbers I gave are for a machine with a perfect exterior.

$200 off for lots of scratches is probably right.

Honestly, do those rubber things do anything? Are they supposed to be legs or grips?
