I purchased my first mac about a month ago, upon advice from many about how great these computers are......but I have had lots of trouble. I am a seasoned windows user and considered pretty computer literate but am currently baffled. I just downloaded sony ebook software and rebooted (required) my mac. It opens to a blank grey,.....then black screen which states I need to insert a boot up disc. I didn't get a boot up disc with my machine, and there is a disc in the slot already that I can't get out anyway. Apple tech support is not available bc of the Holiday. can anyone help?

That would indicate to me that your hard drive has issues. Was this a used mac that you bought?

It's still under warranty then. Bring it in to the store. You say you got a disc stuck in the drive anyway, so you'll need to bring it in.
