Here’s my dilemma. I enjoy the convenience and simplicity of iTunes, but it is very limited. I’d like to have the best quality of sound (FLAC) stored on hard drives. I’m storing thousands of CD’s onto a couple of 2T hard drives. I have several CD’s that feature artist as both the primary artist and as back-up artist. (Similar to classical music – composers/artist, compositions, etc.) I’m looking for a software program that will allow me to cross reference artist, engineers, studios so that I’ll be able to select a name and the program will show every song/CD I have available that features that artist, composer, studio, engineer, etc.
I’m operating a Mac mini on a separate system that will be used primarily as a music server only. No DVD’s or other items. Kaleidescape offers this type of cross reference system, but it’s way out of my price range. Any suggestions/comments will be greatly appreciated. |

You could try Songbird, I've only tried it briefly, so can't comment on its suitability.
Also check out the MusicBrainz suite of programs, although primarily Linux based, there are also some Mac ports. |
