Hey Guys,

Haven't been here in a while, glad its still alive . I have got an iPhone 3G and really wanting a video recorder. I keep reading about free video recorders through Cydia, but I dont really want to jailbrake my iPhone.

Does anybody know if Apple will release a video recorder soon?

Its killing me!

No one really knows about when Apple will add a video recording app. If you don't want to wait, just jailbreak it. It's very easy to do.

Is it dangerous?

Jailbreaking has no real danger of bricking right now. I'd recommend using QuickPwn. It doesn't require restoring your iPhone.

I don't know about recording to the phone, but Qik has been working on the jailbroken iPhones for months and is strongly rumoured to be hitting the legit App Store soon.

Just to clarify, Qik is an online streaming service and not a video recorder. Even if a legit app is released, it will likely have restrictions on use on EDGE or 3G.

Hey all. I'm a newbie to the iphone. Typical newbie mistake as well. Is there by chance a step-by-step method that'll show me how to go about getting an video recording app? or maybe how I could go about jailbreaking/unlocking my iphone? Being that the new 3gs has video recording capabilities, you figure it could be available to 3g users for download and what not. Anywho, any help would be great. Thanks...

The 3GS actually has an entirely new camera system allowing it to do video. It's not the old 3G camera taking 25 or so frames per second. You would probably have to jailbreak (if there are any apps that do this in that camp).

As Yuiichi says, the iPhone 3G has a 2 megapixel camera which wasn't designed for video. The iPhone 3GS has a 3 megapixel, auto-focused camera designed to record video as well as still photos. You can record [poor] video on an iPhone 3G if you jailbreak it using something like Qik.
