Woo! We've had it here from the release of 3.0, think I've used it about 3 times, only one was actually useful the others just trying it out!

You serious?? 3.0 has been out since... June? And MMS only just came to the US...
That was a delay on whose part exactly?? My guess AT&T...

I live in Australia and use the Optus 3G network, and the moment you got the update, there was your MMS... You had to do some activation thing but I think mine sent a message by itself and then it worked... Not sure...

I don't plan on using it often, but it's nice to have. It's more the principle of the matter: AT&T has finally given us what we should have had since 3.0. I'm not totally angry at AT&T though. They realized that iPhone users would send lots of MMS messages, and did a lot of network upgrades to prepare. They really upped the 3G bandwidth in urban areas, including the NY Metro area where I live. I notice much better speeds in NYC.

Maybe thats why it took so long for AT&T to get it, they spent that whole time upgrading... Surely Apple would tell them that 3.0 will have MMS long before 3.0 would have been released...

Alot of networks in Australia already had high bandwidth and MMS capabilty on previous smartphones, which would explain why ours was instant...

I find it strange that I'm defending AT&T, but that's just not true. In New York City, San Fransisco, or any large, rich U.S. city, we have orders of magnitude more users than in Australia. And previous smartphone users didn't use MMS like iPhone users will.

Should AT&T have done these network upgrades sooner? Absolutely. But were they a unique necessity that doesn't exist anywhere else in the world? Yes.
