I think you are getting confused here. Do you mean the Mail app on your mac, or gmail.com? Could you explain this in more detail and possibly include screenshots to illustrate the issue?

The email application on the Mac. I am actually trying to help a friend, that's why I'm a novice. I'll be over there tomorrow and take a look at it. I know she launches Safari to bring up her applications and there is a "gmail" link at the top of the page she uses to get to her email....

I know, I am ... that's because I am a Windows user and have just sat down in front of her screen once to give her some simple instructions. I will look at it again thiws evening and familiarize myself more with what she is trying to do.
